Text

There is a popular colloquial saying, that we ‘cannot division ourselves to twice.’ This underscores the fact that human beings are limited in how many things they can do in parallel, or how many places they can be at the same time. And it’s not only human beings that have this limitation, there is no created being that is present in more than one place at a time. In Job chapter 1 verse 7, God asked Satan, “From where do you come?” and he answered, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.” This means that, much as many people at the same time in the world claim that the devil made them do something, this fallen angel has no such capabilities. He can only be in one place at a time.

In contrast to the above, the Bible makes it abundantly clear that God is everywhere at every time. In Psalm 139 verses 7-12, the Bible says:

Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, "Surely the darkness shall fall on me," Even the night shall be light about me; Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You.

The creator of the universe is not limited by space or time. How can what He made be an obstacle to him when He can unmake anything just by speaking a word.

When God called on Adam in the midst of the garden and asked, where are you, it’s not because God did not know where he was. In fact, He already saw him and already knew what he did and also already saw the efforts he and Eve were making to hide from Him. In a gross lack of knowledge of God, how could Adam think that he could hide from God? Satan had deceived Eve by saying that if she ate the forbidden fruit, she would have all knowledge and be as wise as God. Alas, she had been defrauded! Other than knowing shame after they realized that they were naked, neither she nor Adam had any more knowledge than they originally had after eating the fruit. Indeed, they probably now had less knowledge after having been separated from God. What a disaster.

If you have been attempting to hide from your Maker, save it; you can’t. He is omnipresent, and though His Throne is in heaven, He is not any less present on earth than in heaven. He knows and sees everything, everywhere, every time. This is one more reason why every other god is simply fake. They are either in a temple where people go to visit, burn incense and pour libation, or worse still, they are in the pockets of men and women as they go about their daily lives. If you put your hand in the pocket to pick something and the god accidentally drops, sorry, you have just lost your god. Or if you got home and forgot to remove it from the pocket and throw your clothe in the laundry, oops, you have just destroyed your god in a manmade machine.

For God’s children, having the God that is available every time and everywhere is great advantage. We can call on Him any time and He will answer us. In any difficulty or in other circumstances we find ourselves, God is not left behind, in fact, God is there before us. Sometimes when we pray and ask God to come down, we are simply exhibiting a lack of knowledge and wasting our time because God is already there. Do you need God now? Then call on Him now because He is right there with you and He is not unaware of your situation. If you have exhausted your own abilities, then don’t waste any more time; God is waiting to help you.

What to Do?

Stop thinking of God as a distant Personality. He is everywhere at every time. With this knowledge, you should start to relate with Him one on one as you do a friend that is standing or sitting right beside you. This knowledge can change your life. Try it.
