The Guards Were No Match

Matthew 27:62-28:8

an adage says the root of a tree that wants to stop an elephant from entering the river will end up in the river with the elephant. Imagine someone wanting to stop an armored vehicle with mere hands, where do you think the encounter will end!

People do stupid things all the time, and one of such things was the posting of 16 soldiers to guard the tomb of Jesus in order to prevent His disciples from stealing His body away and thereafter proclaiming that He had risen from the dead. In Matthew chapter 27 verses 62-64, the Bible says:

On the next day, which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, saying, “Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise.’ Therefore, command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away, and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead.’ So the last deception will be worse than the first.”

How could Jesus have done all of the miracles He did in their midst for 42 months and the chief priests and Pharisees still expected that mere soldiers could guard the tomb of Jesus and prevent Him from rising? If Jesus could raise Lazarus who had died for four days, why wouldn’t the Pharisees simply accept that Jesus was able to raise Himself from the tomb?

Well, just as He said, on the third day while the guards were busy guarding the tomb, all that Jesus needed was one angel to roll the stone away. The angel came with an earthquake announcing his arrival and the Bible says that the guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men. I prophesy to you today that because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, every guard of soldiers or battalion of soldiers posted to stop you from making progress will shake for fear and become like dead men, in Jesus’ name.

The guards are no match when God is in control. They were no match to one angel at Jesus’ resurrection and they were no match to one angel when Peter was arrested and imprisoned. Even the chains of Peter and the iron gates of the prison were no match. If your life feels like you are in prison or in bondage, I pray for the chains to break loose and I declare your freedom in Jesus’ name. In Isaiah 45:2, our God says:

I will go before you And make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze And cut the bars of iron

A song writer says ‘Jesus set me free, why should I be bound?’ So, from this moment on, you will no longer be in bondage. Jesus overcame all odds to rise from the dead. I pray, going forward, that you will overcome every challenge and your life will begin to feel like that of an overcomer. Jesus rose from the dead and I pray that every aspect of your life that seems dead receives the resurrection power and come alive. Happy Easter and have a blessed week ahead!

 PLEASE ACT NOW:
If you are yet to give your life to Christ, you do not have a covenant with God and His promises do not apply to you. To come under these promises, please surrender your life to Christ today, by praying this prayer:
Lord I know that I am a sinner and I am unable to save myself. I am sorry for my sins and I pray that you please forgive me. I am aware that Your Son Jesus died for my sins and I accept Him as my Lord and savior. I surrender my life unto you from this moment. Please take control of my entire being and help me to be obedient to your Word, going forward. Thank you, Lord, for hearing me. I have prayed in Jesus’ name. Amen.
If you prayed the foregoing prayer, you have just been born again. Please find a Bible believing church in your area and ask to see the pastor. Let him or her know that you have just given your life to Christ and s/he will guide you on next steps in your journey as a child of God. The Lord bless you!
