Revelation 3:7-8

There are different types of doors. Some are revolving, opening and closing either with a push or with motion sensor. Others are self-closing, meaning when you open it, it will close on its own, without any push. Also, depending on how important some doors are, some require dual access, which means that one person cannot open the door alone, even with a key; a second authorized person is needed before the door can open. In almost all cases, it is far easier to close doors than to open them. Most doors have access controls, where you must have a key (physical or electronic) before the door can open, but you would notice that anyone can close those doors.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, easy as it may to close doors, the Bible says in the letter to the church in Philadelphia, in Revelation chapter 3 verses 7 and 8:

… 'These things says He who is holy, He who is true, "He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens": "I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.

God is saying to the faithful, I have opened a door before you, and no one can shut it. Now, when God opens a door, we must know that it is not just an ordinary door. The fact that the Bible says no one can shut the door means that this is an overriding door. Though it is easy for other doors to be closed, just by anyone, the Lord is saying that this door cannot be shut by anyone. Why? It’s because the Lord alone has the key to open and to shut the door.

This type of door is not open to just anyone. Look at the conditions attached to it in verse 8: “for you have a little strength, have kept My Word and have not denied My name.” So, to you who have been faithful before God, have kept His Words and have walked in His Ways, the Lord is saying that He will make the unfaithful dudes to worship before your feet. He will make it certain that it pays to serve the Lord and to remain faithful before Him.

When God opened the door for David to become king, all of the powerful people and weaponry of Israel’s military could not stop him. The door was open, and king Saul could not close it. When God opened the door for the Jews in king Ahasuerus’ empire, the king’s eyes were blinded to all other beautiful girls in his kingdom, except for a Jewish orphan girl, called Esther. When Haman threatened the plan of God to free the Jews from oppression, he paid for it with his life and household, and the door remained open. When the Lord opens a door for you, no one can close it.

Have you been faithful to the Lord but are not seeing apparent fruits for your faithfulness yet? Wait for it, because it is coming – an open door that no one can shut. When this door opens, you will walk through it, and no powers can stop you. You will march as the King’s son or daughter that you are, and others will not only look in envy, but they will also come and rejoice with you and serve you in the process. Faithfulness never goes unrewarded. Elisha poured water on the hands of Elijah and got a double portion of Elijah’s anointing as a parting gift.

The church in Philadelphia did not know that God was watching them. Even so, you may be working faithfully in God’s kingdom and think no one is noticing you. You may be working hard in your office and think no one is seeing you and saying well done. You may be doing all that is needed to be done on that assignment and think where does that lead you. But the Rewarder is saying to you, because of your faithfulness, I will open a door before you, and no one can shut it. Continue in your faithfulness and wait for your open door. If you think nothing is happening, remind God to make this door apparent. You will soon rejoice.

PLEASE ACT NOW:

If you are yet to give your life to Christ, you do not have a covenant with God and His promises do not apply to you. To come under these promises, please surrender your life to Christ today, by praying this prayer:

Lord I know that I am a sinner and I am unable to save myself. I am sorry for my sins and I pray that you please forgive me. I am aware that Your Son Jesus died for my sins and I accept Him as my Lord and savior. I surrender my life unto you from this moment. Please take control of my entire being and help me to be obedient to your Word, going forward. Thank you, Lord, for hearing me. I have prayed in Jesus’ name. Amen.

If you prayed the foregoing prayer, you have just been born again. Please find a Bible believing church in your area and ask to see the pastor. Let him or her know that you have just given your life to Christ and s/he will guide you on next steps in your journey as a child of God. The Lord bless you!
