Dear Readers – you may have noticed that the weekly writings were not delivered to your mailbox for some weeks. This was due to a problem from the distribution platform. By my estimation, you may have not received the writings for about 5 weeks, and I apologize for this. Please note that all of the writings are in the blog website, www.wisdom-speaks.ca. If at any time in the future you fail to receive the writing, please bookmark this website and you can always go there to read. Thank you for your encouragement and prayers, and may God bless you all!
Last week we looked at one of the characteristics of our God, how He is a Covenant Keeping God. Our God is the Most High God, the One who never fails at His promises. We saw how the Bible says that He who promised is able also to perform His promises. We saw how dependable our God is, how He is our refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. We encouraged ourselves that if God promised us something, we must consider it done.
Have you seen the descriptions in the above paragraph? Well, you do not need to bother search for the opposite of man. In contrast to God, man is a Covenant Breaker. If a man promises you something, you had better not put all your hope on it, because man is fallible. Benjamin Franklin, one of America’s founding fathers, once famously said nothing is certain except death and taxes. I dare to add a third item to this list: disappointment from man. If you are trusting in man to do something for you, you must brace up for the possibility that he won’t. in Jeremiah 17:5-6, the Bible is clear:
Thus says the LORD: "Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD. For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall not see when good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, In a salt land which is not inhabited.
This scripture is sharp; it says that if you put your trust in man, you shall not see when good comes, ouch, and this is not a quote based on nothing. It’s because of the antecedents of man. In Romans 1:29-31, the Bible says men are:
…filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful.
Just name the variant of wickedness, and you can apply it to man. Do you want to be disappointed? Congratulations, the best way to get there is to put your trust in man. Man was created in the image of God, but he soon quickly turned his back on God, accepting fake and baseless claims from the devil. If God cannot trust man, how can man trust man? Rightly did Edward Mote write in 1836, My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ Blood and righteousness, I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name. On Christ the Solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.
You cannot state it better than that. If you don’t want your hope to be dashed, then you had better put it in Christ. Why would you gamble with your future? Your life is precious to God, and you should not hold it any less. If you are wondering how to put your trust in Christ, the first step is to surrender your life to Him. You cannot run your own affairs. Your strength will only come from being vulnerable before the Almighty God. This is urgent. I recommend that you do it today.
PLEASE ACT NOW:
If you are yet to give your life to Christ, you do not have a covenant with God and His promises do not apply to you. To come under these promises, please surrender your life to Christ today, by praying this prayer:
Lord I know that I am a sinner and I am unable to save myself. I am sorry for my sins and I pray that you please forgive me. I am aware that Your Son Jesus died for my sins and I accept Him as my Lord and savior. I surrender my life unto you from this moment. Please take control of my entire being and help me to be obedient to your Word, going forward. Thank you, Lord, for hearing me. I have prayed in Jesus’ name. Amen.
If you prayed the foregoing prayer, you have just been born again. Please find a Bible believing church in your area and ask to see the pastor. Let him or her know that you have just given your life to Christ and s/he will guide you on next steps in your journey as a child of God. The Lord bless you!
